There is no special advantage.  In fact it can make it
harder to use because it causes more diffraction
artifacts and is much harder for the eye to see.

There is also no advantage to straying from the
Stellefane tester.  Many fine mirrors have been made
with those kind of testers.  You don't need an x-y
stage.  Just look at the Stellefane tester to see how
they do it.

For a beginner to stray from the tried and true just
invites doubts later on when nothing seems to come out
right.  Then he starts asking why it did not work and
then everyone has to guess about what may be wrong
with his rig.
