[ATM] Trouble getting CeO off of bevel

Hello everyone,

I have made some good progress over the past few months on my 8" f/6.2 mirror thanks to the help of those on this list. Once again I have hit a roadblock. I am trying to figure out how to get the cerium oxide off of the bevel on the mirror. I assume this is necessary before sending the mirror out to get coated. I figure that I better know how to do it before going into final figuring and parabolizing. Everything I've tried so far hasn't worked. I have tried...

Rubbing it off with my fingers
Brushing it off with a finger nail cleaning brush
Brushing it with a toothbrush
Scrubbing it with the foam part of a sponge (non abrasive side)
Using a polishing attachment on a Dremel tool
Tried using water, dish soap and water, and acetone

So far I have only managed to get a very small bit of glass to show up and this was with a lot of work. Information on the bevel: The bevel was finished with a combination of 400 grit sandpaper and the fine side of a knife sharpening stone.

I have some pictures to help you see where I'm at:

Thanks,

Adam Krause
