[ATM] BEESWAX....Creation of an old lap substance....
To all on the list, I have only shaped a mirror into sphere. Yes, it was
polished and a friend of mine completed the task of the figure... I will do
this one day , and understand the art.... I have been very busy, remodeling
my home and not being able to "play in the mud" , so to speak....
Back to the Beeswax, There is a man on the ATM list that swears by
this , as his "sometimes only additive to the surface of some of his (lap's)
has no pitch , but only Beeswax"( North of England he live's, I think)
I have made a pitch lap of only Beeswax and found that it moved more
freely than pitch, across the surface of the glass. There was grip on the
surface , but not as "pulling" as pitch. I found that if the Beeswax is as
thick as a normal "pine pitch lap" that it will "FLEX" and give ripple on
the surface.
Some of the recomendation's are to coat your "pine tar" with the
beeswax and this keeps the lap solid & soft.... I have tried both on a
mirror... The Beeswax only lap, left some ugly looking stuff on the surface
when looking through the "porthole" It really is nice stuff, and it also
mixes with pitch..... If your lap had a thin layer of beeswax, and you
could control not breaking through this layer, I believe the "ripple would
be eliminated" but I have not gone there.. Dominic help me here....
