[ATM] Cold pitch

This morning, Dick Parker allowed me to look at my 200 mm metric mystery
mirror under his autocollimator. We had looked at it about three weeks ago
and found that it was a very good sphere. I looked further and decided that
it needed additioanl work to polish it out and set about to polish the
mirror.

I made a lap of Gugolz 64 and kept it in my basement. Today I looked at it
and concluded that it is polished out (I did pick up that ten dollar
microscope from Radio Shack that was recommended, in Carmel, NY where my
daughter works) however under the autocollimator, my mirror shows signs of
zones now. Dick suggested that my lap is too hard. A Gugolz 64 lap that's
too hard??? It doesn't make sense. The pitch was not abused while making
the lap, not at all.

I decided to check the temprature of my basement, so on the way home I
stopped at Lowes off exit 7 from I-84 in Danbury CT and purchased an analog
thermometer with a clock, something that I wanted in the basement anyways.
I left it in the basement for a couple of hours and discovered the
temprature in the basement is around 39 degrees...F for you European and
metric types, that's pretty cold. I find it to be fairly comfortable, but
then I come form a long line of reptiles (I am an attorney)

I guess that I'll have to find a warmer place to polish.
