[ATM] Pitch lap woes, not parchament
This week I tried all of the recommended methods to relieve my mirror from
it's pitch lap trap.
Initially, last Sunday, I tried a brief venture into the realm of the
bigger hammer, however a mentor advised against it strongly and frankly, I
did not need much persuasion to desist, but it did no good. I let the
mirror and pitch lap stay in cold water overnight, and and the next day and
overnight again. Nothing. It has been very cold here in downstate Brewster
NY about 40 miles north of NYC, so I did not try the hose method, I did
however spray water at a healthy pressure from the faucet, still nothing, a
day and a half in the freezer (Thank goodness my wife is in New Mexico for
a couple of weeks) Still stuck, Wednesday I tried a woodworker's clamp
(Although not much pressure was applied) Once again, the mirror and tool
remained stuck. Finally, this evening I tried immersion in hot water. That
did the trick.
I've cleaned up the mess I made and tomorrow, I am looking forward to
returning to Dick Parker's workshop.
