YIKES, that renders the tool nearly worthless, and also dangerous
if a large-diameter bit is inadvertantly run too fast.  The speed
should be dial-in on a separate control.

You're not being fussy at all to demand the minimal requirements
of a tool!

Is it possible that you can get a "real" tool by buying one intended
for professionals?  It sounds like the models you've seen are ill-
designed by bureaucrats to be "safe".
