Re: [ATM] Commercially available Fine Screws
That's all well and good however... I find that with a lot of practice I'm just able to tell when the center contact touches the glass to a repeatability of .0001 inch and only on very good days. On a micrometer where the "feel" of contact is more defined or the measurement is defining a position that can be verified, the resolution of those expensive toys might be worth the price but on a spherometer where you are less sure of the point where contact is made the expense could be better spent.

Perhaps, this site would be of interest:
http://www.newport.com/store/product.aspx?id=3210
I have purchased these for less than $20 and am very satisfied!
Or, for a real treat:

Though a bit pricey, these are exquisite and a pleasure to behold.
They adjust with a precision and accuracy only, in my experience,
improved upon with piezoelectric actuators. Dail-in interferometric
precision out of the box.
I know it is not stock from which one would make his own adjuster,
and they are first rate!
