Good to see you on the list(s). Yep, I use the AA Mag-Lite bulb with a
wall wart; it allows closer eye and camera clearances (at least in my
setup). Since I just modified my Foucault for stepper motors I'd like to
keep the Mag-Lite bulb. Looking forward to experimenting with Dejan
Vucinic's Foucault Test Image Analyzer, James Lerch's RTAFT and my own
musings.

Yes, the lens does have a front. The stronger curved surface
goes to the outside world with the flatter side to the camera.
I'll note that you don't need to use an achromatic lens as you
aren't trying to see a broadband light source but rather just a
single color unless you are still using a light bulb for the
light source. I'll also note that you don't even need to use a
color camera as all of the info is in brightness and there is
nothing in the color regime that deals with the test.
