[ATM] My sudden disappearance from the lists.

To all of those of you who have missed my words on everything,
I've been taken ill for a period and spent the last few weeks in
the hospital where the internet is a foreign thing.
Basically what happened is that I got a little foot infection
that I didn't take care of because I got sick with the flu (first
time in 14 years!) and ignored my foot. As a result of this, the
infection really took hold and eventually gangrene set in to the
whole foot. As a result of this, my foot had to be amputated.
The amputation happened on the 18th of Jan. and I've been
recovering since. I am now crawling about the trailer until I
get it well cleaned up enough to use a walker to get around. I'm
also going to have to learn to single foot a car (luckily both of
my cars are automatics!) to get around.
The interesting thing is that the doctor won't allow me to use
crutches right now as he is afraid of me falling and trying to
use my now nonexistant foot to stop the fall which will damage
the stump which is still healing. Next year at RTMC you will
probably be seeing me with a home made pegleg and probably
pushing a wheelchair.
My thanks for those that have inquired about as to where I've
been and thanks for those who have expressed condolences, both in
the past and in the future as they are well appreciated. The
nurses where sad to see me go from the hospital as I tried to be
a nice patient to them. However, if you guys ever do have to
spend a period of time in the hospital, go with a good supply of
spices as the kitchens there don't spice the food at all!
Imagine a bowl of chili with just a bare pinch of mild chili for
the whole pot and you get the idea. My biggest fight over the
period was getting them to cook my eggs in butter so they would
have some flavor. The other thing is that I am a type 2 diabetic
and they figured that feeding me insulin on a regular basis was
the right cure for the high blood sugar problem that I got into.
Unfortunately, I have plenty of insulin so my sugar level didn't
go down until I started getting the right meds for that. Even
then, instead of increasing the proper med or changing it to what
I normally use, they still wanted to shoot me up with more
insulin! There was nothing like getting that evening shot of
insulin late at night to get a grump out of me.
FWIW, I do still feel my foot and am actually feeling that I can
move my big toe and ankle a bit despite it not being there at
all. My body totally ignores the idea that there is another part
of my body in the way which slightly supprises me. I have
attempted to cross my ankles several times now to no avail. The
only way to cross my legs now is at the knee, something which I
didn't do often, but that does make things comfortable. I'll
also note that my thigh muscles are still not used to the lack of
weight of the foot and keep overshooting the position which makes
for a rachetting motion to the stump. It is getting better but
it still happens on occasion now.
I think that I'm home now for good and will be joining back on
the lists with my usual comments.
I had over 3300 posts im my email box, including several notes
from my internet provider that my mailbox was over 90% full and
of those, 1900 of them were spam of one kind or another. It took
a while to sort them out but Mailwasher came through for me in
nice order with that huge pile of junk.
Thanks again for your interest in my presence on the lists!
