We can only determine what the pattern should look like
if we know both, the distance and the aberration. Going
backwards, with the pattern given, we can derive one of the two remaining
elements - distance or aberration - only with the other one known.
We should never underestimate the power of creative imagination, but when it
comes down to cold numbers and logic, we are facing the above reality.
