It is relatively trivial in real life to grind a mirror back smooth and
then lay it on somthing like cheap astro turf. This WILL support the
mirror adequeatly and I am sure it would pass the star test IF you can
reach thermal equalibrium. Remeber, the night air for most of us is
constantly changing. It has been suggested before and I'm sure there
are those that have tried it. I think we are on the verge of some of
our winter over thinking here. ;)
