About 12 years ago, I was refered to Bofors AB (the
Swedish weapons manufacturer) by people who claimed
Bofors "should certainly have ATMing supplies". Bofors
offered me a quote of $10,000 USD each for 200 mm
(8") borosilicate blanks, and said it would be "a
little bit" more for quartz (special order) and asked
how many pallets I would like, and which branch of the
US forces I was representing! Wow! I really need some
government contracts.
Lesson here is to check different sources. This poster
did the right thing in asking. I think he will find 8"
quartz pieces for much less than $1500 USD. Can he used
so-called fused silica, BTW?
