Okay then. Several years ago turpentine disappeared from the local stores, and was replaced by "turpentine substitutes" like turpatine, gumentine, and turpenoids. I was told that was because the illegal drug manufacturers were using large amounts of turpentine to make their drugs, and the gov wanted to stop them. 

But times change, don't they? Today I went to some stores, and I did not find "turpentine" per se. But I found "distilled turpentine", "gum spirits of turpentine", "oil of turpentine", and "gum turpentine", in small amounts only, and the substitues. I don't know if any of this is the same stuff my grandpa used decades ago, made from pine trees. And I don't know if these things are good for pitch softening or tool sealing. Apparently they are not available in large quantities. 

Everything called "turpentine" nowadays comes with a qualifier preceding it. Maybe they have different ways of manufacturing it which displeases the druggies? So, not to imply that any of you are druggies, but does anyone know the answers?
