[ATM] Alternatives to double-sided foam tape
Hi, all...
I have a Rigel Quikfinder attached to the OTA w/ the supplied double-sided tape.
I keep my equipment in my garage. It is cool there -- well sometimes
COLD. I had been keeping the finder on the scope, but recently I
noticed that that foam tape had given way, and the finder was on the
floor. Unhurt, fortunately.
To the question:
What other means are there by which I can attach it more-or-less
permanently, but still removable, and safer than double-sided tape?
Secondly,
When I've finally settled on where on the OTA I want to mount it
permanently, is it safe to just go ahead and drill through the tube?
I have a drill press, but I have previously always had a piece of wood
behind what I was drilling. I've never drilled though a piece of pipe
this large. The tube is a piece of aluminum (I think) irrigation pipe
about 11" in diameter. It can be deformed by too much pressure, and
I'm concerned that w/o a backing piece, drilling through it w/ the
drill press will damage the tube by distorting it. I'm really crappy
at freehand drilling, so I'd prefer the drillpress for this.
Comments?
TIA,
BM
