Steve, this effort is a real tour de-force, and IMHO, quantifies and
de-mystifies quite a few assumptions and expectations that many of us ATM's
rely on when designing around thin mirrors.

When the professional observatories report on the development of telescopes
using ultra-thin, multi-meter class mirrors, relatively little space is
devoted to the blank design itself in comparison to the design and de-bug of
the (typically) active mirror support system.  Wilson's books on reflective
telescope optics (thanks to Mike Peck for recommending these to me) have a
good overview on the state of the art circa the late 1990's.  These books
are a good jump-off point for anyone interested in this subject wanting an
overview and a bibliography pointing towards original work.
