Do get a brass wire brush (usually sold as Bar-B-Que grill brushes) and
give your lap a vigorous scrub now and then.  I don't know if it will help
your problem but it works as very fine micro-faceting and it is the
sovereign remedy for a lap that skids and grabs. Even washed rouge will
behave itself when used with a well brushed lap.
