[ATM] Slumped, fused blank

Here's a perhaps hare-brained thought about mirror blanks brought on by
pictures of a recent fused blank made of two thin plates with posts in
between: How about making the posts shorter in the middle than at the edges?
Make the height of the posts approximate the sagitta of the mirror. Then,
the fusing could be done on a flat surface; no need for a carefully shaped
form. The front plate would slump down to and fuse to the posts. You'd
have a slumped, lightweight mirror with a flat back. Anyone tried it?
Would it work?
