[ATM] Glueing glass together
To all on the list, My first question about 5 years ago on this list
was if I could use "epoxy"
to glue 2 - 5/8" plate glass pieces together to make a telescope
mirror....(the reason was I did
not have thick glass for the purpose). I have seen this question over and
over from new ATMers.
The answer is in the substance between the two pieces of glass. The
"glue" what ever it may
be is not glass... meaning it does not have the properties of glass...And in
turn it will not work
for a telescope mirror... This may work if you are trying to make
bullet-proof glass (please use
at least 4 or 5 layers for small caliber fire-arms)
Dominic-Luc , does have a valid point of bonding glass, glass
loves water, It's how we
cut it, it's how we grind it,. It's how we polish it. There has to be a
connection somewhere
in the water molecules that can bond this crazy medium, without raising
temperatures to melt
down your automobile. Sure a "kiln" of good size and a whole lot of "propane
or electricity"
will do the trick but... How great would it be to fuse Plate glass or Pyrex
"chemically" .....
The first one to do it will not have to worry about making mirrors... just
making money......
The end statement by most everyone will be.. , just get thicker glass
then you won't have to
deal with all this stuff... They told Edision.. Just use candles , it's just
the way it's done.....
Never stop dreaming up ideas, everything changes at some point...This list
Dreams, and can
change things... Russ Jocoy
