I have done 24" mirrors (24 and 28 kg) and polished out the 32" (59 kg)
(parabolizing is still in progress). All this was handeld by hand with
subdiameter tools working TOT (see my webpages).

Hogging out should be done by machine, though. My large blanks I ordered
pregenerated. During grinding of the individual wets I do not lift the tool
from the mirror. I just push it on one side, wipe the old grit away, put some
new grit on and continue. This is faster, safer and saves your back.
Polishing is good Marathon training for me. Imprtand: prevent dehydration:
