I began exploring thin glass while taking a class from Mel Bartels. I
ground and polished a pie plate. Two actually, I broke the first one.
Anyway, I had read on Mel's web site that he had slumped a 1/4 by 16 and
asked if he had ever finished it. The answer was no and then he gave it
to me. That is why 1/4 inch. Although, I had a 1/4 inch by 16 piece of
plate in the back room waiting for a mold and a kiln and some experience.
Mel just surprised me. Following the scale from pie plate to 16" plate
glass, one should be able to slump a 24 inch in 3/8ths thick glass. That
was to be my next project but the ceramic kind of jumped in there.

Excellant reasons each and every one.

Sure, I love orphans. How much? I assume it is plate glass. I am about
as far away from you as one could be and still be in the same .. well,
maybe not that far, but on the west coast of Oregon with my toes in the
water.
