My experience with wax is that its quite OK for flats and reasonable for spheres
but pitch is definitely better when parabolizing.

To produce good contact, you need pressing WITH SOME RAISED TEMPERATURE.

If you have good pitch its probably a better proposition although wax has a
reputation of scratching less.

A lot of the bad reputation relating to ripple is actually etching caused by
letting beeswax press for hours.  This doesnt produce better contact - it does
however transfer an etched pattern to the glass - especially when using HCF.  It
cannot be cleaned off - has to be lightly polished away.
