Yikes, sounds a little risky. You can control the
visible light transmission, but are you sure that they
will absorb enough UV and IR? You could try welder's
glass, but if it was me I'd get a sheet of Baader
solar film and use that instead, perhaps attached to a
piece of plexiglas. Use the rest of the film to make
a sun filter for your binoculars.
