i'll add to what the others have said only three things from personal 
experience:

leave room for focus changes necessary when you or your fellow observers 
need to refocus when removing your eyeglasses.

leave room for focus changes necessary when you introduce filters into the 
path.

leave room for focus changes that may be necessary when you need to tilt the 
base of the focuser to square it to the optical path.
