Yeah, they keep crashing into mine, also. I've worn coatings off of oculars from the numerous cleanings. For a star party of newbies, a cheap used Plossl might be a good choice - consider it a disposable eyepiece.

And how about the nutcases who think you're trying to trick them with the view, so they have to touch the glass to be sure it's really there...
