It is a pretty horrific though... certain life-destroying infections such as HIV are transmitted by bodily fluids.   I wonder if tears carry the virus.   I think that the eye is a vulnerable invasion site, just like the mouth, nose, and various other bodily cavities whose mention would be off topic.

What we need is some kind of disposable cover for the eyepiece, one that is clear, of course, and would not hamper the viewing.  This is such a great idea, I might file for a patent on it!  Imagine the benefit to mankind if the spread of ocular AIDS is stopped by "save viewing"!
