Re: [ATM] Telescope Focusing at Public Events

You are assuming that all low profile focusers have limited travel. My
focusers have an extremely low profile of only just one inch with up to
three inches of travel. If you are wondering how it is possible to have both
low profile and long travel, then look here:
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6,260,428.WKU.&OS=PN/6,260,428&RS=PN/6,260,428
Also, focuser movement is stiction-free using compliant crossed flexural
strips and therefore the single knob, single speed focusing has equal if not
better incremental resolution than other "tall" focuser types requiring some
sort of dual speed reduction with multiple focus knobs with pesky focus
locks or brakes. It seems to me that a simple single knob would be far
easier to use for focusing for public star parties than multiple knobs with
additional controls to lock or unlock with heavy eyepieces.
