I think this is the first of several responses that will ask what
magnification you need.
To get the ball rolling:
For low mag, you can do with a plano-convex lens, plano side to
the object. If you want to be fancy, then an eyepiece design
with a fl of 2" will probably serve, something like a Hastings
triplet or even a Ploessl.
For higher mags, probably some sort of compound microscope, like
those used in semi-conductor manufacture or biological dissecting.
these have the space between objective and object you require.
Your requirements are quite reasonable and should be easily satisfied,
except that the 2" spacing makes certain magnifications difficult,
I think. (10X with a simple eyepiece magnifier would be out, a
compound microscope might be at its lower limit, so maybe some sort
of design like a retrofocus lens might be needed.)
