Dan,

I just finished re-formatting in Word 2000 a neat little article about
how to use a section of ordinary galvanized (or non-galvanized,
so-called "black pipe") plumbing pipe to use as a polar axle for a fork
mounting, and how to sleeve it inside of two precision ground ball or
roller bearings, without requiring any machining at all! And the
bearings only have to be "approximately" or roughly the size of the O.D.
of the pipe (one of them will be smaller). In other words, the article
tells how to mount a polar axle inside two ball bearings that are not
even specified in size very closely, and mount them without any
machining. As usual, the article is available as an html email or a Word
2000 document. Illustrated, of course.

Also, you might mention that I am finally going to start writing and
illustrating a very comprehensive and exhaustive article on figuring
with "area formatted ring laps". It will be well illustrated, and
although I will first format it in Word 2000, I will definitely go ahead
and format it in html for the atm site. It shouldn't take me a long time
to get the Word version done, but a little while longer (I am never
hitting on all eight anymore) to get the web page version done. As for
announcing it, just copy my rambling note here, and post it in with your
post (of course, make sure to copy it and render it into plain text as
is required by the list- I always write my emails in html).

I think a lot of guys who would like to use an inexpensive piece of
plumbing pipe for a polar axle, and avoid having to machine it to mount
the bearings, would like to read the little article.

Thanks, Dan-

Your friend,

Dave
