[ATM] Machine polishing simulator, looking for help

I started on one of these over the summer, but dropped it when work became 
more demanding. I had the same thoughts, etc. I *did* get as far as modelling 
several kinds of grinding machines (I have an "elgin" style but my friend has 
a "draper" style machine) in terms of figuring out where the center of the 
tool went on the mirror over time. Plotting this was interesting, since it 
showed me what I needed to do to get a (mostly) spherical polished mirror 
without changing the pregenerated ROC at all.

I think you are on the right track (or at least the same track I was on) for 
figuring out rotational speed of the tool.
