[ATM] Cleaning mirrors

Hi ATM'ers,

Does anyone have any suggestions on a cheap way to do plasma cleaning on
mirrors?   Plasma is the way they ultra clean silicon wafers and medical
instruments.   A friend suggests borrowing an aluminum welding rig, but that
seems to be overkill.   Another friend suggests taking apart a microwave
oven and raster the magnetron and cavity over the mirror plus a flow of
oxygen over the surface.  Is that doable?   What are the health
hazards/precautions?
