You are probably pushing on the front edge of the mirror while it is off of
the lap and this digs into the glass just short of the edge.  Try and keep a
more even pressure on the mirror as you go across the lap.
I use a stroke where the mirror goes from about 1/3 off of the lap to where
the mirror is centered on the lap and the pressure is all off the edge of
the lap.  This quickly (if done right) will remove TDE by pushing down the
area inside of the edge to the same radius.
