[ATM] Truss Tube In Progress
Sam,
great work so far!
I've built a 12.5" Two Truss scope also and I constantly get great comments
from people who look through it. I can set-up in just a couple of minutes
and it packs up so small that I take it everywhere. Here are some photos of
my scope if you have not seen these before:

A few comments:
1) I cannot tell from your photos but it looks like your truss tubes are
less than 2" in diameter. 1.5" OD may work but I've found that 2" are best
for my f5.13 scope. Going too small will result in collimation shift from
vert to horiz positions. You'll also find that the secondary cage will
rotate slightly through this motion.
2) The clamping method on the mirror box is critical to success of this type
of design. Clamping the OD top and bottom of the mirror box works well. My
design uses center bolts which pull the truss tubes into V-Groves to ensure
alignment.
3) How do you plan to clamp the secondary cage to your truss tubes? I split
my bottom secondary holes and use them to clamp onto the tubes. I can
actually slide my secondary cage up and down the truss tubes.
Best Regards,
Peter

Hi All,
Been lurking and learning around here for about 8 months. ATM is in the
blood now, thanks to Ken Lowther and Bill Prewitt. Anyway I am in the
polishing stages of a 12" mirror and thought I would post some pictures of
the Telescope proper as it is in progress. You can check it out at:

All comments welcome.
