Depending on the focal length of the scope, a full truss may not be needed
--  a single spar may well do.  For more, see my article, "A Minimalist
Travelscope" in the December 2003 issue of Sky & Telescope.  I think you
will also find a lot of good ideas in the article "A Roundup of 6-inch
Travelscopes," which appeared in the December 2002 issue.
