[ATM] Re: Second Thoughts on Mirror Support
Don,
The Ronchi star test could be interesting. Then put a little extra pressure
on one edge of the mirror and see if the fringes change. But be careful!
It's based on mathematics!
Meanwhile, take care of your dad. None of us last as long as the stars do.
BTW, the bumblebee story led eventually to better aero theory. The air is
much more viscous down on those small size scales, and they make use of
their own generated tip vortices for extra lift. The same things that
make our big planes crash. Now we predict that bees can fly very well, and
they are all very relieved and so grateful.
Some of us enjoy the mathematical basis of physics, and we increase our
understanding by addressing different problems, reconciling apparent
contradictions. It is also perfectly valid to enjoy astronomy, telescopes,
imaging, etc without diving into all those equations. There are many
dimensions of human experience.
