Rather than cutting it from a solid chunk, cut it from appropriately
sized thick wall tubing.

I think you would be much happier with a solid aluminum baffle. Strong,
firm, fireproof (a consideration when viewing planets near the sun).

Precisely.

baffles. They are integral with the cells. Simple, accurate, secure.
