John, it wasn't fuel in the automotive sense, but rather wax.
The shipload was finished ready for delivery fertelizer, in the begining of
this industry they made the pellets and then gave them a very thin wax coat
for transport. The idea was to keep the stuff dry. the coating was thin
enough that when the pellets were worked into the soil the wax be worn
through in places and so allow the stuff to do it's job.
The thing is the amount of wax used was just right for the load to become
the mother of all "Daisy Cutters".....
