I'm not sure if its the same scope, but what you describe sounds like
"Alice", a scope by Ron Ravneberg out of Ohio.  Look at

It, at least, fits your description.

Hello All,

Does any one remember some 10 to 15 years ago an article in one of the astro
mags either Sky and Telescope or Astronomy about a small Dobsonian telescope
that could slide the top section of the tube down into the bottom section
for
transport ?

If you can remember the article and its on the web do you have the url ?  or
do you have the magazine ?  If so would you scan the article and send it to
me please.

I shall be giving a talk at my local AS soon about building Dobsonian
telescopes and would like to try this particular method.
