[ATM] Quirky idea

Ok guys

Color me crazy here...

The chldren's daycare we use had a quickcam 3 they
were giving away. I snagged it.

My idea and I am wondering if other similarly
masochistic types out here have done this...

is use an array of ccd chips in place of a primary
mirror. In a sense this would make it a refractor
scope. 

What think, has this been done in the amateur world
yet? How doable is this? I'm thinking 4 or 8 of the
small chips in an array.
