Another method I've used was for a 60Hz adjustable
freq inverter I was using for a photographic clock drive. I installed
a second 1 RPM motor which ran off the same inverter and mounted
a good stopwatch on the shaft of the motor so its center
was coaxial with the shaft. There was an adjustable pointer
near the edge of the stopwatch. When the motors are
turned on the sweep hand of the stopwatch would be
stationary relative to the fixed pointer, with the body of the
watch rotating. The idea was to keep the sweep pointer directly
opposite the pointer, by adjusting the inverter frequency,
sort of like guiding. The stopwatch was first checked to
be within 1 sec per hour, accurate enough for the polar drive
& camera I was using.
One could rotate a drive gear manually if a stopwatch is
attached such that some part of the drive train is
turning at 1 rpm...tedious but no power required
when using a film camera.
Neither of these works with digital watches..;)
