As for your questions:
Yes, the clamps are the Lee Valley and hold very tightly.
The bottom black rectangle is extruded aluminum. The
shape has two half circles recessed on the sides. They
match the 3/4" tubes allowing the tubes to slide the whole
length.
As for the Platform....The top of the platform has a 5/8"
stud and three teflon pads. All I do is lift on the mirror
box as I would any Dob. If you wanted it permanent just
build it with a nut at the top of the stud and crank it down.
Because the stud in only an inch long I can still place the
feet of my other scope on the platform top allowing me to
use it on the platform also....or a small tripod. The arc on
the rollers is 45.6" which puts the CoG at around 22."
above the surface. High enough for a small tripod without
tipping.
