ATM MOSFET Blues

How does one identify the source, gate and drain of a MOSFET?
Specifically, I have an IRF510, and the data sheet has no diagram of the
packaging showing which lead is which. It's in a TO-220 package. Is
there a standard as to which lead is which? If not, is there a simple
way to determine it with an ohmmeter? What does this have to do with
ATM? It's part of a motor controller I'm playing with. Thanks in
