RE: ATM Atm Re: 10" f5.6 polishing
Ryan,
I had problems with pitch sticking too when making the lap for my 8.75". I
got around the problem as follows: -
I used the Tex method, but on my base board I lay a sheet of the flexible
(woven?) Teflon sheet (mentioned elsewhere on this list with regard to Dob
bearings).
In order to prevent sticking to the wooden strips a friend suggested that I
wrap them in cling film (US = Saran Wrap?), before pinning them to the
baseboard. This turned out to be an excellent suggestion, as when the poured
pitch had cooled it was possible to cut through the cling film by running a
craft knife longitudinally along each wood strip. The strips came out easily
and the cling film then peeled off the pitch just fine.
Needless to say, pretty much NOTHING stuck to the Teflon sheet.
Mind you, even having gotten around this sticky problem, it was still a
messy business. Next time I will try a different method.
Still chasing that doughnut......
