ATM A semi-automated Foucault test
I should probably refrain from posting this until I've had a chance to read
Suiter's article in the latest issue of ATMJ, but I've been experimenting
with a semi-automated Foucault test using the often discussed idea of
capturing foucaultgrams to the computer with a digital camera. Since there
seems to be an unusual amount of interest in trying out similar ideas
lately I thought it would be worthwhile to write something up and make it
available for peer review.
I've posted a preliminary analysis of early experimental results on my
personal web page. Go to <http://home.netcom.com/~mpeck1/astro/astro.html>
and click on the appropriate link, or go directly to
<http://home.netcom.com/~mpeck1/astro/autof.htm> if you prefer. The paper
is graphics heavy (takes a while to load on a slow dialup connection), but
less boringly technical than my usual efforts.
My conclusion? In short, it works.
Critiques are welcome, especially since I don't necessarily claim to know
what I'm talking about.
