Mike,  This is very true!!!  Most of the professionals don't know Ursa
Major from Orion, let alone Mars from Antares!!!  The Memphis
Astronomical Society had a graduate physics student as a member a few
years ago and he was the one who enlightened us to this sad fact.  All
the pros want is data to analyze.

The same goes for telescopes.  The pros don't work at the
observatories;  they teach most of the time.
