I copyed that deal from Edmonds over to the Ataronomy-net, here so
far is the best reply:

Hello there fellow astronomerz!
In my opinion, the space program did not really kill the enjoyment of having
a telescope...but it instead somewhat increased the awe of the magnitude and
glory of the Universe...as well as showing us the possibilities of nature.
I own a 10" Meade Newtonian reflector and I love using it to look at
nebulae, galaxies, etc. It doesn't take away the fun of using it when I see
a Hubble image of the same thing I have seen...it only magnifies my interest
in the beauty of such masses of gas and dust.
It's true that in the present, we cannot see exactly what Hubble can
see..and people do get discouraged because of that. But it doesn't destroy
the fun of pointing the telescope at various areas and just scanning for
interesting stuff--and when you find something, it may take your breath
away.
Soon I'm going to begin astrophotography...maybe during my college break
between semesters. I'll remember to post whatever I find interesting up in
this list group...and begin a new webpage dedicated to just that.
Astronomy is one of my majors and I planned it to be so ever since I was in
6th grade in grade school. Since then I never changed my mind...and my
interest in the stars has never declined. :)
See you astronomers later! I gotta finish up studying for my calculus final
in 2 hours!
