That sounds rather like a stepper motor, see if there is any indication on it as to the 
number of steps per revolution, or the step angle, because you will need to know this. If 
you can't see anything on it, you will have to hand turn it and carefully count the 
steps.

This sounds like a regular DC motor, if it has more than 2 leads, it may have 2 speeds or 
a forward and reverse, it is likely to have a well regulated speed, but is probably 
pretty weak. It will probably take somewhere around 5-6 v DC. You might be able to use it 
in an electric fine focusser.
