Re: S&T and the State of ATMing
When it came time to choose between S&T and Astronomy, I picked Astronomy
for my subscription this year. As I compared the two, the "balance" appeared
to me do nothing more than water down anything that might have been of
interest in the magazine. Astronomy seemed to do a better job of presenting
the viewing side of the sport while S&T's viewing aspects seemed much weaker
and the "Telescope" part nothing better than a bunch of product reviews (and
mostly of products I can't afford anyway). I had hoped to see some of the
great plans for ATM stuff like the grinding machine some of my club members
showed off last meeting.
I know that this is not consistently true and has not been the case
historically, so I plan to buy issues off the newsstand as they appeal to me
and otherwise check back issues out from the library. If I had the money to
get both, I probably would, but I need to spend the $$ on my telescope right
now, so one had to go and it was S&T. Just my opinion.... subject to change
about this time next year when I count the number of issues I paid full
price for. 8^)
