I've seen the Alice design in the same book you did, and it captured
my eyes. Today I'm in the process of finishing my first telescope,
based on the Alice-design.

At least from my point of view, I wouldn't choose the Alice design for
my first telescope. It's a quite simple design, but I think it's
better to start with a normal Dobsonian Design.
