ATM 12 V AC Power supply for Camtrak ??

     Hi I got a Byers Camtrak that uses a 12 volt ac Synchronous motor.
Currently I'm trying to make a field power supply for it that way I can power
it with car battery.

    I could figure out how to make an AC 12volt from Car 12 Volt, DC. Right
now I set up the Camtrak behind my backyard with a small transformer (110volt
-> 12 volt ac).
    I wonder if the Inverter that sold by auto part store or department store
will give a 60 Hz 110volt ac.  I need an advice here.  Probably I would try to
buy one of the inverter and try it out. But I imagine I would have to mark the
worm screw and time the rotation  and  compare it to the rotation time when
power from household current . 
    I really apreciate any help here. I figure the camtrak might be handier
than my own homebuilt Trot type 4 Double Arm barn door  with stepper motor
drive. I'll see which one should i keep. Or maybe i should keep both   8^)
