Hi Dave.
The stuff I use is plastic air duct, used by heating and air
conditioning people for air return ducting.  It comes in 2" increments
from (I think) 6" to at least 16", although it may be hard to find
bigger than 14" locally.  It comes in 10 ft. sections. You may be able
to buy smaller pieces from the contractors if they have scraps, or their
suppliers will sometimes have usable broken pieces that you can buy.  I
haven't bought any recently, so I can't give you a price, but it's
reasonable.  The outside is white and cleans up nicely with acetone or
alcohol.  The plastic takes paint well.  Good Luck.
